2012 Renewal Is Coming
Renewing With the Arizona State Board of Physical Therapy
For The 2012-2014 Compliance Period
It is getting close to the time to renew your license or certificate and finishing up those continuing competence contact hours. (PT’s Only) The renewal fee for a physical therapist is $160.00 and the renewal fee for a physical therapist assistant is $55.00. These are the same fees as in 2010.
In early May and early June Board staff will e-mail the profession with a notice for the upcoming renewal. Please note that this is a change. The Board will no longer be sending you an individual renewal form by standard mail. The Board will be sending all notices by e-mail. Please ensure you pass the word to all your fellow physical therapists and physical therapist assistants.
June 18, 2012 you will be able to begin renewing your license or certificate online at the Board’s website www.ptboard.az.gov. However, if you do not wish to renew online you may print a renewal form off the website and send in the completed form and payment. When preparing for your renewal one of your top priorities will be to ensure you have completed all continuing competence activities for the September 1, 2010 thru August 31, 2012 compliance period. Physical therapists are required to have 20 contact hours of continuing competence activities of which 10 must be from Category A and all must be completed in the 2010-2012 compliance period. Physical Therapist Assistants do not have any continuing competence requirements. You can contact the Board staff at (602)274-0236.

ANID-50 Posted: 4/27/2012Updated Application Process Available for PT's and PTA's Graduating from Accredited Programs
On March 15, 2012, Governor Brewer signed HB 2059 which allows students of US physical therapist and physical therapist assistant programs to take required examinations before graduation. The Board would like to thank State Representative Kate Brophy McGee for sponsoring HB 2059. The bill was signed with an emergency clause included, which makes the statutory changes effective immediately. A summary of the laws effect is listed below. 1. Accredited Educational Institution Physical Therapist and Physical Therapist Assistant students may now apply for licensure or certification before graduation, and request to take the AZLAW and NPTE examinations before completion of their program. 2. Students must submit a complete application, pay the appropriate fee, and have submitted to the Board a letter from their school, signed by their Program Director, stating that the student is a candidate for degree (PT or PTA) at the next scheduled graduation, including the date of the next graduation (date must be included), and has meet any established requirements of the program. 3. The Board does not mandate any program provide the required letter for an applicant (student). Programs (Schools) must make their own determination if a student or students are ready to take the examinations. Therefore, if a program declines to provide the letter required under A.R.S. §32-2024(B)(2)(c) or A.R.S. 2-2022(D)(2)(c) the applicant (student) may not test prior to completion of their program. If a program wishes to provide the letter of eligibility, on school letterhead, the language below may be used. In accordance with A.R.S. §32-2024(B)(2)(c) or A.R.S. §32-2024(D)(2)(c) this letter shall serve notice that First Name, Middle Initial, Last name is a student of Name of Program, School or University.
